BLS – Healthcare Provider

The AHA’s BLS Course provides the foundation for saving lives from cardiac arrest. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

The AHA’s BLS Provider Course reflects science and education from the 2015 Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

ABOUT THE COURSE

Heartsaver®  CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking on an adult.  This course teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills.

To make learning CPR easier, a system was devised that makes remembering it as simple as C-A-B:

  • Circulation,

  • Airway, and

  • Breathing.

Other topics include:

  • Recognition of life-threatening emergencies,

  • How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and

  • Other topics required for certification.

1st Aid basics are essential to prevent further injury and save lives, at the same time. 1st Aid topics covered include:

  • Rescuer duties,

  • Victim and Rescuer Safety,

  • Phoning for Help,

  • Finding the Problem (*Skill You Will Demonstrate), and

  • After the Emergency.

With the knowledge and skills you will learn in this course, YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE! You will learn the skills of CPR & 1st Aid for victims of all ages and will practice CPR & 1st Aid, in a team setting.

WHO WILL NEED TO TAKE THIS COURSE?

CPR & 1st Aid training is a course available for virtually anyone to complete and become certified.  Many positions require certification in CPR & 1st Aid. Positions include:

  • Physicians,

  • Nurses,

  • Respiratory Therapists, physical and occupational therapists,

  • Physician’s assistants,

  • Medical or nursing students in training,
